Centrals to Wake Woolnough!! (Monday 25th May 2009) The Club has been informed our application to remain in Longmuir Shield was unsuccessful. Subsequently, the First Eleven will be playing in Woolnough Shield in Season 2009/10. The Club's preference is to always compete at the highest level and we are keen for a quick return to Longmuir Shield. Competing in Woolnough provides us an opportunity to refocus our on-field success. It also represents significant development opportunities for many up and coming players and our Junior Cricketers. This is in line with the key platforms in the "Club Strategic Plan" being developed by Craig Amoore and other Senior Club Members. Discussions with our experienced First Eleven have all been positive and we are confident of retaining and building on our Senior playing list. The Club is keen to get as many people as possible involved in our push for success. Let's work towards making Season 2009/10 one of the best in the Club's history. Details regarding the AGM and other off-season activities will be posted shortly. If you wish to discuss any aspects of the Club's Future Planning please call Anthony "Nin" Devola or Trevor Layzell.
Presentation Night (Monday 23rd March 2009) Saturday 4th April 2009, Sandringham Masonic Hall, 7.00PM. Let's make sure we see the Season out with a bang!! Come and celebrate Choc's Last Stand and support our achievers "on and off" the field. Details of the Presentation Night are attached. For ease of catering please let the organisers know if you can make it. One-Dayers Miss the Moment Following a false start on the Saturday with a washout, the One Day Team took on Omega on a cold and wet Sunday. With the Sunday Game, a couple of late changes were necessary with Simon "Slicks" Blick and Lloyda "Skis" Merritt getting a call up. After winning the toss and batting, we started poorly and at 7/72 a short day looked ominous. Backing up his Semi performance, Nick "Burger" MacMillan along with Paul Layzell, Stephen "Lloyda" Merritt and Ian Boyle took the team to a defendable 140. Burger finished at 60 not out. Looking to bowl Omega out, we were delayed for over an hour due to rain. After some initial success and tight bowling the game was close at 4/48. However, the heavy conditions and steady Omega batting took it's toll. Omega getting over the line late in the day. Terrific bowling from Simon (7-2-1-18) and Ned M-White (7-0-3-33) getting the team close. Congratulations to Burger on winning the Man of the Match and to Trevor Worland on leading a strong and fair team throughout the year. U14's Pipped at the Post (Saturday 14th March 2009) The U/14's have just missed out on winning the Premiership. Defending only 103 the boys lost by only a wicket, with the unbeaten Le Page sneaking past. The boys bowled and fielded with great determination and looked close to winning a number of times. Hope to have a full match report on the web soon! The boys displayed great sportsmanship and were keenly supported by a large contingent of parents and Club supporters. Thanks to Damien Hennessy again on guiding and developing the team throughout the year. Another job well done. Junior Presentation Day - Sunday 22nd March 3PM. This year we will be holding Junior Presentation at the premises of our long time supporter - The Hampton RSL, Holyrood Street, Hampton. The RSL is kindly putting on "Barefoot Bowls" for all Juniors and their Families, before the presentation commences. Barefoot Bowls - 3PM, Junior Presentation to follow at @4PM. We encourage all Juniors and their Families to come along and celebrate all the Junior's achievements, as well as experience this great local Club. If you have any queries about the afternoon please call Trevor Layzell (0407816896) or Nin Devola (0400360323). Grand Final Week (Monday 9th March 2009) The U/14's batted in the first week of the Grand Final, knocking up 103. After a steady start by our boys Le Page bounced back and kept the total down. Best of the batsmen were Jack Campion, James Massey and Peter Chantzos. With the runs on the board the Team is ready to turn the screws on Le Page. We urge all Club Members to make their way down to Le Page No. 2 and support the boys!! Also at Le Page No. 2 this week will be the One Day Team. Playing against Omega on Saturday at 1.00pm our boys are keen to finish the year in unbeaten style! Again, we urge all Club supporters to get down and cheer the boys home in what could be another tight finish!! This Thursday will be the final selection night and there will be a brief training session followed by a BBQ and last drawer. It would be appreciated if a couple of guys from the other Senior teams could roll their arms over at training. U14 Grand Final The U/14's are playing on Friday night (6th March) versus Le Page Park at Le Page Park no 2. Hope to see many Centrals people supporting the future of our great club! Grand Finals For Centrals (1st March 2009) After a thrilling couple of finals games both our U14 and One Day Team are through to Grand Finals. Both Teams were defending targets and were behind the eight ball as the games neared their completion. However, some terrific bowling and fielding support in the tight end of the game ensured both Teams won through. The U14's will take on Le Page Park from this Friday, whilst the One-Dayers will take on the winner of Bent Utg vs Omega, in a fortnights time. Great to see so many Club people out supporting the Teams. We will update further details of the games as they come to hand Finals Time (26th February 2009) The Club has two teams in the finals action this week: U14Twilight and the One Day Team. U14 Twilight vs Cluden, William St, Friday 26/2/09. The U14Twilight Team are defending 161 tonight versus Cluden at William St, Brighton. Making 161 was a great effort, with good contributions from many. Great displays of hard running, unselfish batting and even some flair, with a reverse paddle shot in the last over. The boys should be confident to defend this total and we encourage all Club Members to get along and support the Team. One Day Team vs Bentleigh Uniting at Highett West No. 1, 1pm Saturday. (Second Semi) Following an unbeaten home and away series the One-Dayers take on the old nemesis Bentleigh Uniting. Again, everyone is encouraged to drop in and will on Waldo's Warriors. With the youngest player in the Team in his 30th year expect more hitting than running!! See Team. Family Night and Choc's Farewell (17th February 2009) Following the completion of Saturday's last round we will be having a Family Night BBQ and get together. The night is to focus on celebrating the magnificent contribution to the Club of Bill "Choc" Mirabito. With over 350 senior games, many high-flying catches and not so many funny stories, Choc will finally be disposing of his old creams. Please join
celebrations at the Club Saturday (21/2/09) from 6 to 6.30
onwards. Remember to pass on the news to past players and
supporters as everyone is welcome. |
