VALE

Wayne "Jacko" Jackson

It is with regret we report the loss of another great servant of Hampton Central - Wayne "Jacko" Jackson. Wayne passed away last Monday after a long battle with illness.

Jacko joined the Club back in the 60's as a Junior and first played Senior cricket for us at this time. With various stints around the country, Jacko rejoined the Club as Captain/Coach of our B Grade side in 1990/91. He led the Club to the narrowest of Grand Final losses, but this earmarked the Club's competitive climb in the CMCA.

Following another work stint interstate in 1991/92, Jacko was back again, this time guiding many of our developing cricketers in the lower Grades. With skill and nous Jacko easily accounted for the batting averages (G Grade 93/94 and J Grade 94/95) and memorably achieved the Club's first double century (202 not out). Jacko continued playing with us while he could and was great at popping in and providing a quiet word.

Jacko served on Committee from 1996/97 to 2000/01 and won an Outstanding Services Award in 2000/01.

Our thoughts are with Sandra, Patrick, Shelly, Cody at this difficult time.

The funeral service will be held this Tuesday 8th June 2010, at W D Rose Chapel, Charman Road, Cheltenham, commencing at 10am.

14th May 2010

Longmuir here we come!!

The Club Committee is pleased to announce the Club has been successful in our application to re-join Longmuir Shield for the 2010/11 Season.

Further details regarding the Club AGM and leadership appointments for the coming season will be posted once available.

Please contact Nin Devola in regards to new recruits and sponsors for the coming season.

VALE

Gordon McGregor

It is with great sadness that we advise the passing of Gordon McGregor.

The McGregor name is legendary at the Centrals - a long and dedicated family involvement tracing back to Gordon.

Gordon's playing days at the Centrals involved stints with the Firsts in the mid 70's, captaining the Seconds to a Grand Final in 77/78, and captaining the Thirds in the early 80's. A few odd games after this highlighted by a swashbuckling 180 in the Fourths in 86/87.

From the late 70's onwards Gordon was involved with our Juniors and has always been there to support the Centrals through our highs and lows. The Centrals have been fortunate to have a man the calibre of Gordon and his legacy lives on with the larger McGregor Family.

Our thoughts are with Marg, Andrew, Scott, Cameron and Lisa and the entire McGregor Family at this difficult time.

The funeral service for Gordon will be held this Wednesday 12th May 2010, at St Leonards Uniting Church, cnr Wolseley Grove and New St, Brighton, commencing at 12noon.

Centrals is the Home of Cricket

First and Second XI Win Premierships.

The Club has enjoyed it's most successful year bringing home Woolnough and D Grade Shields. The Ones did it easy with a combination of pressure bowling and ice-cool batting, whilst the Seconds showed real grit recovering from a bad start to chase down a small target.

More details and images from the big games to follow shortly.

After the disappointment of the previous season the Club has responded in the best way. The development of our youth and less experienced players has been a highlight and it is pleasing our plans and actions have been delivered.

Members with photos and video of the big weekend are encouraged to share it with all Club members. Please place photos on the Club Facebook Site, or keep secure copies for the Club to collect.

Note: Presentation Night will be held on Friday 9th April 2010 - please keep this night free and join in the celebrations with all Club Members. Again more details to follow shortly.

Grand Finals Here We Come

Following a successful home and away season the Club has the Ones and Twos in Grand Finals.

Well done to all those who have assisted the Teams during the year and to Club members representing the Club this week.

We hope to see all Club Members out supporting the boys over the weekend. Let's make it 2 from 2!! The Club will be holding

Grand Final Teams are attached.

Junior Presentation Night

At this stage both the Firsts and the Seconds will be playing a Grand Final over the weekend and it will be a great time to get all to the Club and celebrate together, particularly our Juniors input in the Seniors.

Preliminary Finals Teams (11th March 2010)

Teams have now been selected and are listed on the site.

Centrals Hail Through the First Week of Finals (10th March 2010)

Amongst the havoc of torrential rain and hail damage, the Club performed very well in the first week of Finals. All teams are still alive and the Seconds have stormed into the GF with a great come from behind win.

The 1sts and the 4ths managed draws with "ordinary conditions" invoked and are able to move forward, confident of securing a GF spot with wins this week. The 3rds unfortunately did not get off to a good start and went down in their 2nd Semi. However, with the benefit of finishing on top at the end of the home and away season, they have a chance to regroup, play some attacking cricket and book a GF rematch with Chelsea Heights.

There was some terrific efforts over the weekend and it is very pleasing to see the Teams stand up to finals scrutiny. The finals games for this weekend are as follows:

Grade              Home Team                            Away Team                            Venue

Woolnough        Cluden                                  Hampton Central                   Hurlingham

D Grade             Bentleigh Uniting                    Bentleigh ANA                      Centenary Park

F Grade             Hampton Central                   Cheltenham Park                   Widdop Cres

H Grade             Melbourne Wanderers           Hampton Central                   Packer

Again, we encourage all Club Members past and present to get out and support their mates. Let's see four teams in GFs!! Training has been well attended and genuine over the past few weeks and we encourage all involved to get out and practise the skills for the weekend.   Let's have our hands at the ready for whatever comes our way!!!  Finals teams will be on the website once confirmed on Thursday.

First Round Finals Teams (4th March 2010)

Finals teams are up on the web site. Good luck to all involved and let's get 4 teams into the next round of games.

Home and Away Success (3rd March 2010)

The Club has enjoyed it's most successful home and away result for many seasons. The 1sts and 4ths recovered from slow starts to the season to finish 3rd on the ladder, whilst the 2's and 3's have been leading D and F Grade for much of the year. The next goal for the Club is to have as many teams progress to the Grand Final and bring home the bacon.

All Seniors and U/16's are encouraged to attend training this Thursday and support the Club's finals campaign. With the first four teams in the finals there is little restriction on qualification for Finals. With this in mind selection will be tight and all Senior members are encouraged to support the Club and their team mates. Please notify followers of the Club of our finals games and let's see as much support as we can muster.

Venues for this week's 1st and 2nd Semi Finals (with other finals listed) are as follows:

Woolnough
1st Semi Hampton Central vs Omega Simpson Reserve
(2nd Semi Moorabbin West vs Cluden Widdop Cres)

Round 11 - Guyman stomps through February!!! (1st March 2010)

The conclusion of Round 11 has seen the Club have it's most successful home and away season for many years. The Club recorded 5 from 5 again!!! This is the third time this season we have achieved Senior Club success.

The wins in the last game has ensured finals for the first four teams. Confidence is high and we have the opportunity to field strong teams in all teams, with little restriction on individual qualification for teams.

Steve Guy managed the Stomp to a traditional country tune and is keen to repeat with four wins in the coming finals rounds.

Round 10 - Crunch Time (4th February 2010)

We have only 2 rounds left and the first four teams are in the mix for finals. Competition for selection is increasing and the selection committee encourages all Club Members to commit their best efforts into the end of the season.

Attention to the team, training and payment of subscriptions are all critical in being selected finals.

Teams for Round 10 are now on the website. Teams Round 10

News (27th January 2010)

Congratulations to Cooper Ferries and Joe Gee who were recently part of the CMCA U16 Representative Team that won the Beitzel Sheild, the premier representative competition in metropolitan Melbourne. The boys were part of the squad that won the final against the strong Ringwood District team and other suburban competitions.

The Club Golf Day is coming up and a couple of spots are available. The social golf day will this year be held on Sunday 7th February at Centenary Park, McClelland Road, Frankston. Hit off from 10.30am. Please contact Trevor Layzell if you would like to join the day's action.

Well done to Dean Vine and his assistants including Helen and Pam on making Sunday's $1000 Day another great success. Much fun was had by all those in attendance and the day is the major fundraiser for the Club. It was also terrific to have so many of our local cricketers as part of the day and we thank them for their support.

Round 9 - can we do 5 from 5?

A great start to the round by all teams and the Club is in a good position to chalk up 5 out of 5 wins again. Let's see the Nyah West Stomp become routine!!

Round 7 - 5 out of 5 (21st December)

Congratulations to all players on achieving 5 wins in the Seniors on Saturday....possibly the first time the Club has won 5 out of 5.

A good time was had by all who attended the Christmas party and the famous Nyah West Stomp was performed admirably by Steve Guy as promised. I'm sure Guyman would love to perform it again if we can manage 5 wins again! For those of you who missed it, click here.

Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year to everyone.

Training
Training with the bowling machine is now available every Tuesday night from 6pm. Training will continue on Thursdays as normal.
